Marathon de Sables
Never again !
We have returned home sore and hobbling but with a great sense of achievement in completing the Marathon des sables. We knew before we left that it would be tough, but even with the right preparation nothing can prepare you for the continuous changing terrain and temperatures of up to 52 Degrees. A fantastic event to participate in, but definitely for us a one off!
As of the time of writing donatons to the site stand at £6100.00, we thank you again for your kind donations to the charities and notes of support throughout.
We are proposing to close the Just Giving site on the 14 th may so the monies can be passed on and used by the charities immediately.
Thanks again, Regards,
Tim & David www.justgiving.com/dave-tim
This year Spifox are delighted to have two sponsored runners, Tim Appleton and David Caira, taking part in the famed and grueling Marathon de Sables.
The Marathon de Sables is said to be "the toughest footrace in the world", with Entrants covering 151 miles in 6 days (6 marathons back to back) through the Sahara Desert. As if that is not deemed to be tough enough, all Entrants also have to carry all their own food, water, clothing and bedding throughout the course of the race!
Our two runners came up with the idea to really challenge themselves after completing several short runs and 10k events. In conversation someone mentioned this Extreme (crazy maybe?) race in the desert and after a few glasses of red wine the Marathon des Sables was investigated and a plan and a program was hatched. Our intrepid runners have been training now for over 18 months with the race starting on the 1st April 2010.
The trip is fully funded by the Entrants, so all sponsorship raised will go straight to their chosen charities. Spifox are delighted to be one of two charities nominated by our runners and will receive half of all pledges. The remaining 50% of the money raised will be donated to Prostate Scotland (Prostate cancer research) www.prostatescotland.co.uk.
Spifox would like to thank Tim and David for their support and urge everyone to get behind them (and the two charities) by donating on the JustGiving page by following this link:- http://www.justgiving.com/dave-tim
